Shally Steckerl

Talent sourcing did not exist as a recognized job function when I established it in 1996. 

I wrote the first newsletter on the subject, CyberSleuthing, starting in 1997, and launched the first blog under the same name on ERE in November 2004. I built the world's first dedicated sourcing teams at Motorola in 1998, Cisco in 2000, Google in 2004, and Microsoft in 2005. That same year, I published the first book on the discipline, Electronic Recruiting 101. In 2007 I convinced LinkedIn to get into the recruiting business and was brought in to help design what is now LinkedIn Recruiter.

Since then I have directly built, led, advised, or trained over 300 sourcing teams, plus hundreds more reached through conferences and training programs worldwide. I have published two more books, The Talent Sourcing and Recruitment Handbook and The Sourcing Method. Since 2020, I have hosted a weekly livestream called Shally's Alley.

And I still run live searches, because the day you stop doing the work is the day you start teaching theory.
